One Perfect Day: Grateful in Steamboat

One Perfect Day isn't always measured by how much you manage to fit into it. Sometimes it's about how many of your favorite people you manage to fit around the table.

Maybe you’re dreaming of turning Thanksgiving into a destination holiday in the mountains. Or maybe the friends and family guest list has simply outgrown your dining room, your kitchen, spare bedrooms, and space to squeeze in one more folding table. Either way, pack your bags and your favorite family recipes and gather in Steamboat for One Perfect Thanksgiving Day.

Your holiday headquarters will be Falconhead Grande. This luxury duplex is built for these big family moments. Between the two adjacent homes, there are 10 bedrooms that comfortably accommodate up to 32 guests, plus four kitchens, generous dining tables, spacious pool and bar rooms, and beautiful mountain views. Everyone can gather together for the moments that matter, with plenty of room to spread out in between.

RISE & SHINE: LET THE PREP BEGIN

Thanksgiving morning starts where it should: in the kitchen.

There is no such thing as too many cooks in the kitchen at Falconhead Grande. Actually, make that four kitchens. With ovens preheating on both sides of the duplex, there’s room for everyone to get involved without getting in each other’s way.

One crew tackles the turkey and stuffing while another rolls pie crust and chops vegetables.

And for the crew just waking up, they can take their coffee to the cozy living area to sip while watching the Thanksgiving Day Parade.

MORNING ADVENTURE: A TURKEY TROT

With hours of eating ahead, you’ll want to work up an appetite. Bundle up and head outside for a family walk or hike in the crisp November air. Depending on Mother Nature, the trail might crunch with fallen leaves or fresh snow underfoot. Either way, everyone will return with rosy cheeks and ready to chow down!

Or head downtown for the local annual Turkey Trot that runs out to Strawberry Park and back. This race/fun run/walk has become a tradition for locals and visitors alike. The Turkey Trot is a 5K course that starts and ends at Steamboat Springs High School. Dress in your cold weather running gear or even a Thanksgiving Day costume.

THE MAIN EVENT: dinner is served!

This is the moment Falconhead Grande was made for.

Platters arrive from both kitchens. Wine is poured. Chairs are pulled up to the tables and everyone finds a seat. With plenty of space for a crowd, Thanksgiving dinner feels less like managing a large group and more like one wonderfully oversized family meal.

Pass the platters, toast to being together, and savor a long, lingering meal with sweeping alpine views as your backdrop.

GAME ON: FOOTBALL, MOVIES & FAMILY COMPETITION

After Thanksgiving dinner, Falconhead Grande showcases the benefits of a duplex setup.

One side transforms into football central, where fans gather around the big screen TV, shoot pool, and grab cold drinks from the wet bar while cheering on the big games.

On the other side, the kids and cozy seekers dim the lights, pile onto the plush sofas with blankets and leftover pie, and kick off a holiday movie marathon.

GOLDEN HOUR: SOAK IT ALL IN

As afternoon fades into evening, slip outside and into the hot tub just in time for sunset.

It's a quiet moment in a house filled with people, while inside someone is bringing out the leftovers. The lower level game rooms buzz with friendly pool tournaments, board games, and conversations in front of the fireplace, bringing a peaceful, perfect Thanksgiving Day to a warm close.

SWEET DREAMS: GRATEFUL FOR A FULL HOUSE

Eventually, the dishes are done, the football games end, and everyone scatters to their own private retreats.

With 10 bedrooms, including 2 bunkrooms,3 kings, 1 queen, and 4 bedrooms that can be set up as having a king bed or two twins, there is no need to pull out the sleeper sofa in the den or have teenagers camping out on the couches.

Tomorrow, Steamboat offers plenty of ways to get outside and explore. But today was about staying close to home.

You may not necessarily need a home as large as Falconhead Grande for your Thanksgiving trip. Perhaps you're having an intimate Friendsgiving gathering, or just your immediate family. So, Moving Mountains has plenty of other options. Check out our homes with all the ingredients for a perfect holiday in Steamboat, Breckenridge, and the Vail Valley.
