Red, White & Breathtaking: 4th of July in Colorado’s Mountain Towns

Patriotic parades, pancake breakfasts, rodeos, and ski jumping (yes, even in July!) – all against the backdrop of breathtaking mountain views. So, don your red, white, and blue and throw on a cowboy hat and you’ll fit right in at the Independence Day Celebrations in Steamboat, Breckenridge, Vail, and Beaver Creek.

Since 1927, Steamboat Springs, Colorado has celebrated Independence Day in true Western fashion. This is a special holiday and Steamboat does it right with an iconic hometown parade. 

Events include the Pro Rodeo Series at the Brent Romick Arena, the Ski Jumping Extravaganza at Howelsen Hill, the First Friday Artwalk in Downtown Steamboat, and the Saturday Farmers Market.

On Independence Day, events include the Lion's Club Pancake Breakfast in Downtown Steamboat, and a Nordic Combined 1K run, and a 3k roller ski race. All followed by the Fourth of July Parade, presented by Yampa Valley Bank, down Lincoln Avenue in Downtown Steamboat.

Summer in Breckenridge kicks off with with the annual Independence Day Celebration. Although fire restrictions ban the setting off of public or private fireworks in Breck, the town makes up for it with plenty of other festivities. The day starts with a 10K fun run, followed by the Sparkler 50 Yarder Strider Bike Race for kids ages 1-6. Then the Firecracker 50 Mountain Bike Race leads off the parade. The National Repertory Orchestra (NRO) tops off the day with a Fourth of July Spectacular before a Drone Show lights up the night sky.

Celebrate the 4th of July in Vail with the annual tradition of Vail America Days. The parade starts at Golden Peak and makes its way to Lionshead. There is a lineup of family entertainment throughout the day all around the village, then the annual Fourth of July Patriotic Concert at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater featuring the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. This year, there will be a special concert on the Gondola One Lawn in Vail Village. Then cap off the day with a spectacular fireworks show (conditions permitting).

Soak up the refreshing mountain air at the Beaver Creek Independence Day Celebration. There will be live music, artist meet & greets, Stars, Stripes & Slides kid’s area, youth entertainment stage in the village, food trucks, and fireworks (conditions permitting).
