Steamboat opens Sunshine Bowl skiing after 3.5 feet of new powder

Elkhead Express SteamboatThe Indian- Summer weather that Steamboat enjoyed through mid-November has been made up for by lots of fresh early December powers (over 3.5 feet last week). The resort had over 43 inches in December, totaling 85 inches so far this season.

Thanks to the Powder Gods, on December 13th Steamboat Resort is opening Elkhead, Sundown, and Sushine lifts, allowing skiers and riders to access 27 new trails, including Broadway, Spur Run, Sundial, Buckshot, Baby Powder, Cub, Day Break, Fawn, Flintlock, Huffman’s, Sunshine Lift Line, Tomahawk, Sunnyside, Rolex, Westside and more. The new trails and lifts bring the resort to more than 50 percent open with 11 lifts providing access to more than 1,500 acres on top to bottom skiing and riding. Lil’ Rodeo terrain park, including Mini Mavs quarter pipe, are open and crews will look to progress to Rabbit Ears terrain park in the coming weeks, with Mavericks to follow.

This year, skiers will also be treated to the new high-speed Elkhead lift, which promises to cut ride time in half, making their "ride to the bottom" at the end of the day much quicker than in seasons past.
