There is no place quite like Breckenridge on the Fourth of July. The town transforms into a vibrant celebration of red, white, and bluebird skies, blending classic small town Americana with high altitude adventure.
To be positioned to enjoy it all, you need the perfect home base. Welcome to Boulder Vista. This spacious 5-bedroom retreat puts your crew exactly where you want to be – within walking distance of Peak 8 for all the mountain activities and to catch the gondola down to Main Street for the parade. Yet wonderfully private to escape the crowds and head home when it’s time to fire up the grill for a celebratory BBQ.
Here’s how to spend One Perfect Independence Day in Breckenridge.
This isn't a day for sleeping in. The excitement starts early. Coffee brews in the kitchen and breakfast is enjoyed out on the deck enjoying the cool mountain morning.
The little kiddos kick off the festivities with the Sparkler 50 Yarder Strider Bike Race. Children 6 and under can participate. Of course the highlight is the pre race bike decorating that starts at 7:45am!
After breakfast, head downtown for the parade. To avoid parking, walk to the gondola at the base of Peak 8 and take it down to town. The mountain bikers participating in the Firecracker 50 race lead off the parade starting at 10am.
The parade is followed by the annual tradition of the reading of the Declaration of Independence and a performance by a string quartet from the National Repertory Orchestra.
Then there's a full day of activities in the Arts District. The family friendly Purple Mountain Majesty celebration includes a chalk art competition, crafts, lawn games, and live music.
Once you're ready to escape the crowds, board the gondola for the scenic ride back up to Peak 8 for a relaxing lunch back at Boulder Vista.
After lunch, take advantage of one of the home's biggest perks, its proximity to the Peak 8 base area and the Epic Discovery center. There are several pass options that you can purchase online or at the ticket office.
Ride the scenic chairlift for panoramic mountain views. Race down the GoldRunner Coaster or Alpine Slide. Test your skills on the Gold Summit Climbing wall. Or bounce away on the Bungee Trampoline. For younger kids, it's pure excitement. For parents, it's a chance to embrace their inner child. And for grandparents, it's the perfect place to watch the fun unfold while taking in the scenery. Because the house is so close, anyone who needs a mid afternoon nap can easily head back to rest.
After a busy day, everyone eventually finds their way back to Boulder Vista where the celebration continues. Fire up the grill for a classic holiday barbecue.
While dinner is being prepared in the well stocked, gourmet kitchen, adults relax with cold drinks out on the deck and the kids can disappear to the lower level family room.
To cap off the holiday make your way to a viewing point for a massive drone light show. Breckenridge is one of a select few host locations for Stories in the Sky, a statewide celebration marking Colorado’s 150th and America’s 250th anniversaries. This show will transform the mountain sky into a canvas of light, movement, and storytelling.
Eventually, the excitement catches up with everyone. The kids head to the bunk room exhausted from a full day of mountain adventures...
...while the adults soak or sweat away the day's excitement in the private hot tub or indoor sauna before retreating to the home's luxurious bedrooms.
Tomorrow will bring hiking trails, bike rides, and more time together. But for one perfect Fourth of July in Breckenridge, it's hard to imagine a better day than this.
