From Cruisers to Cocktails: Our Favorite Après in Steamboat

Après ski is perhaps one of the most universally celebrated parts of ski culture. The tradition is said to have started in Norway in the 1880s, exploded in popularity in the Alps in the 1950s, and has since spread to ski resorts around the world.

Après encompasses any social activity or entertainment after a day on the slopes. It generally involves raising a glass and toasting to the vertical you skied that day, the depth of the powder, or simply celebrating what fun you had with friends and family.

Whether your taste is champagne and caviar, a cold craft beer with loaded nachos, or wine and charcuterie, anything goes.

Here's where you'll find our team hanging out after a day on the slopes.

"Nothing beats après at Truffle Pig -- it's the best of both worlds offering a casual atmosphere with an elevated menu. Bacon wrapped dates, truffle fries, a glass of wine and a view of the slopes--what else do you need?!"
- Mallory McCall, Guest Services Specialist

"The perfect spot to hang out while you're waiting for the rest of your group to finish skiing or ice skating."
- Teresa Wiedel, Brand & Guest Experience Manager

In the afternoon, The Range transforms into a vibrant après hub for all. Listen to acoustic sets on the first floor, and a DJ spinning on the second-floor deck every Thursday through Monday.

"Ski right in and grab a beer!"
- Jeni Osborn, Yacht Broker

Their slogan is "après with lifties, locals, and legends", and the name says it all. It's right on the slope at the base.

Of course, sometimes the best après is at home with your feet up in front of a fire or in the hot tub. If you're staying at a Moving Mountains residence, one of our complimentary shuttles will pick you up from the mountain and take you straight home. Here's a list of our favorite homes for the perfect après.
