Elevate Your Game: Golf in the Colorado Rockies

As the snow melts and the fairways green up, the 2026 golf season in Steamboat, Breckenridge, and the Vail Valley is about to tee off. From the spring thaw to the autumn gold, there’s a certain magic to mountain golf that you won't find other places.

The "Altitude Assist": The air is thinner, and the drives are longer. Because of the higher altitude your ball travels farther, turning those intimidating par-fives into reachable opportunities. It’s also easier to hit the ball straight! Because the air is less dense, the ball won’t slice or hook as much.

Nature’s Gallery: The wildlife becomes as much a part of the scenery as the snow-capped peaks. It’s common to share the fairway with elk, deer, or the occasional fox, bear, or moose.

Three Distinct Seasons:
Spring: Crisp air and a budding landscape.
Summer: Perfectly warm, dry days that stretch long into the evening.
Fall: The peak experience, where you’ll play through a literal tunnel of gold as the aspens along the fairways turn.

Steamboat Springs: The Yampa Valley Vibe

In Steamboat, golf reflects the town’s ranching heritage - wide open, welcoming, and spectacularly scenic.

This challenging links-style course was created out of ranchland and rock piles, where native grasses and wetlands are as much a part of the course as the greens. And the Keith Foster design is also home to elk, eagles, and blue herons. Haymaker was also the first golf course in Colorado to achieve Audubon International Signature certification for its environmental stewardship.

This spectacular 18-hole course designed by Robert Trent Jones, II, features incredible views of the Yampa Valley with Fish Creek winding its way through seven of the holes. Sixty-six fairway and greenside sand bunkers protect the large, undulating greens while water hazards and elevation changes test even the best shot maker.

Vail Valley: Designer Fairways

The Vail Valley offers a "golf trail" of sorts, with courses designed by the legends of the game.

An impeccably maintained flat course set against the craggy backdrop of the Gore Range and following the curves of Gore Creek. It’s the valley’s most walkable course and is surrounded by towering aspens creating spectacular photo opportunities in the fall.

Renowned golf course architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr. set out to create the famously narrow and challenging fairways nestled in the canyon leading up to the Beaver Creek resort. And much like the runs at the ski area, each tee box's designated difficulty is categorized from green (easiest) to double black (most difficult). The double black diamond championship tees play slightly over 6,600 yards, a true test for even the most accomplished golfers.

This scenic and challenging layout features elevation changes, manicured terrain, and the Stone Creek and Eagle River that come in to play on 12 of the holes. Designed by legendary golf course architects, Devlin/Von Hagge, the EagleVail Golf Club is a true mountain golf experience.

Breckenridge: Golf at the Top of the Rockies

Breckenridge holds a claim to fame that every golfer needs on their bucket list.

This is the only town-owned Jack Nicklaus Signature 27-hole course in the world. Divided into three nines - the BEAR, the BEAVER, and the ELK – the course sits at over 9,300 feet. The ELK nine offers the most dramatic elevation changes and panoramic views of the Ten Mile Range.

Your "Clubhouse" for the Ultimate Golf Week

Golf in the mountains is best enjoyed when the "19th hole" is the deck of a luxury vacation rental home. Imagine finishing a round (or two) and heading back to a residence with a private hot tub, sauna, or cold plunge for recovery; a professional-grade kitchen and outdoor grills for a gourmet meal; and home theaters and game rooms for entertainment off the links.

Whether it's a long weekend with your regular foursome or a week-long family getaway, the 2026 season is the year to see just how far your driver can carry in the thin, fresh mountain air.
