A few Spring Skiing Tips

Slather on the Sunscreen

Wear your sunscreen. You can get more sun skiing in the spring than you can hang out on a beach in Mexico, so be sure to slather on that sunscreen.

Sleep In

Sleep | Moving Mountains

Rest your head on our high thread-count sheets a little longer and linger longer at the breakfast table of your catered chalet. The best spring conditions are best after temperatures have had a chance to rise, so usually perfect after 10:30 am. No need to be first in line this time of year.

Try the MogulsSpring Skiing | Moving Mountains

Corn snow and slush bumps are soft and can be much easier to turn on than January moguls. Try out your best Olympic freestyle moves and gives those bumps a try.

Follow the Sun

Start on MorningSide to start. It softens up first. Migrate a little to the southeast afterward with the long runs of Sunshine Peak. As the sun rotates more to the west (around 11:30ish), advanced skiers will want to move to the famous tree runs of Twilight and Shadows. The corn bumps keep your speed checked just enough that skiing around the gladed Aspen trees is simply a spring skiing dream. And, last but not least, meander farther to the northwest for runs down Hurricane, Cyclone, and finish on the bumps of Vortex. Also, it’s good to know that the runs called High Noon, 1 o’clock, 2 o’clock and 3 o’clock are all named for the times that the sun shines on them. The sunnier the slope in the spring, the better.

Wear Layers

You’ll be chilled in the shadows and ready to strip down in the sunshine, so be prepared with versatile layers you can add and subtract, as needed.

Sunglasses | Moving Mountains

While we always ski in goggles, sunglasses for apres-ski in the spring are certainly a must! Even with impromptu spring snowstorms, your eyes will get plenty of sunshine so be prepared.
