If you're headed to Steamboat, Breckenridge, Vail, or Beaver Creek, here's your insider's guide to skiing smarter - faster access to the slopes, the best meeting spots, least crowded lunch spots, and savvy ways to end your ski day without joining the masses in the final downhill bottleneck.

Beat the morning cluster at the base area and have the complimentary Moving Mountains shuttle drop you at the Thunderhead Express lift. It's already part-way up the mountain. Also, from the bottom, the Wild Blue Gondola will get you straight to the top of Sunshine Peak.
The True West Pass, new this season, delivers valet parking, express lift access, exclusive dining perks and a private locker and boot-up area. Or for powder days, sign up for First Tracks and be the first on the mountain.
Four Points Lodge – This is an easy-to-spot lodge that's a central rendezvous point on the mountain.
Thunderhead Lodge – It's at the top of the gondola so non-skiers in your group can take a scenic ride and meet up for lunch at the newly renovated Hazie's restaurant.
The Range - Located at the base, this food hall is a perfect spot to start the day for coffee or breakfast before everyone heads off, or an end of day rendezvous for après ski.
breckenridge RESORT

Start on the Quicksilver SuperChair or Beaver Run on Peak 8 for smooth early access. Then head over to Peak 6 or Peak 7 before they get busy. By afternoon, E-Chair becomes one of the mountain’s underrated sweet spots for access to more advanced terrain.
Meet Up Spots
Everyone's skiing their own pace and ability, but you want to meet up for hot cocoa or lunch, or a group photo! Head to:
- Tenmile Station – With the largest on-mountain patio and a family-friendly quick service restaurant, gather the group for lunch on Peak 9.
- Pioneer Crossing – Meet for lunch and the views on Peak 7.
- Vista Haus – The classic “see you at the top” landmark on Peak 8 at the top of the Colorado Superchair
- The Overlook - At over 11,000 feet on Peak 9 and with magnificent views, it's the spot to meet for group photos.
Avoid the end-of-day congestion on Lower Four O'Clock. Peel off on Springmeier to the base of Peak 8 and download the BreckConnect Gondola.

Get an early start and begin at Gondola One from Vail Village or take Eagle Bahn Gondola from Lionshead. Then drop right in to the Back Bowls or head to Blue Sky Basin. After lunch, finish up the day on the front side of the mountain. Look for the Northwoods Express lift and do laps on some excellent terrain before heading down for the day.
- Mid-Vail – At the top of Gondola One it's easy to spot, central, and ideal for groups skiing from different areas on the mountain.
- Wildwood Smokehouse- Great BBQ and gorgeous views. An iconic stop for lunch or photos.
- Two Elk Lodge – Arguably the most spectacular location on Vail Mountain. Perfectly positioned for those going in or out of the Back Bowls. And the views won't disappoint.
Avoid funneling into Vail Village via Riva Ridge at 3:30 p.m.—that’s where everyone else is headed. Instead:
Snake your way down any of the numerous green cat tracks down to the base of Golden Peak, or right into Vail or Lionshead Villages.
Or download via Gondola One or Eagle Bahn Gondola on busy days - a smart knee-saving strategy.
beaver creek RESORT

Get out of the base area quickly by loading the Strawberry Park Express lift and up to McCoy Park for laps in the morning. Midday, shift to Bachelor Gulch and Arrowhead, where the vibe is quieter and the runs are beautifully wide-open.
On select dates throughout the season, you can purchase tickets for the First Tracks program and get early access to the Centennial Express lift followed by breakfast at Spruce Saddle Lodge mid-mountain.
Spruce Saddle Lodge – A central rendezvous point if the green-run skiers in your group are skiing in the Red Buffalo area and others hitting the black diamond Birds of Prey runs.
The Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch – The chic, ski-up meeting spot if you want to avoid the clamoring lodges. Ideal for a leisurely sit-down lunch or après.
Mamie’s Mountain Grill – A great midpoint for skiers coming from McCoy Park, Bachelor Gulch and Arrowhead.
The beauty of Beaver Creek is that it never seems overcrowded. For a leisurely exit of the mountain:
From Red Buffalo, wind down Cinch or peel off on Gold Dust.
- From Bachelor Gulch or Arrowhead, cruise down Cabin Fever or Cresta and end your day at the base of Arrowhead or Bachelor Gulch and shuttle back to Beaver Creek Village to avoid the rush entirely.

Ski while everyone else is eating, and eat while everyone else is skiing. A simple shift in schedule can buy you quieter runs, less crowded lodges, and an entirely different mountain experience. Keep far from the noon ski-school rush. Early at 10:30–11:15, or late from 1:45–2:15 is the way to go.
Another strategy is to be first on the lifts and ski through to around 2pm, enjoy an early après/late lunch and call it a day!
