Summer reunions in Steamboat Springs are all about blue skies, outdoor adventures, and authentic Western charm. But hosting a large, multi-generational crowd requires the perfect balance of togetherness and breathing room.
Enter Dala Horse Lodge and Spotted Saddle Lodge. Sitting back-to-back in a premier walkable neighborhood, these two luxury homes let everyone stroll between backyards. Boasting game rooms in each, expansive decks with views and firepits, and access to paved trail systems. They’re the ultimate base camp for large groups.
Whether your crew wants to spend time together fly-fishing the Yampa River, playing pickleball, or mutton bustin' at the rodeo, here's is how to orchestrate one perfect family reunion summer day that will create memories that everyone will be talking about for years.
A few early risers wrap themselves in sweatshirts and head out onto the decks with steaming mugs of coffee. Others hit the paved neighborhood walking paths for a leisurely stroll to soak in the crisp morning mountain air.
Meanwhile, back at the houses, the rest of the crew is waking up. Breakfast is a leisurely, indoor-outdoor affair. Thanks to decks right off the kitchens and a pass-through window at Dala Horse Lodge, everyone piles their plates, and the kids compare their bunk rooms while the adults sip coffee and catch up on the family gossip.
Part of the crew heads out with local guides for a morning of world-class fly-fishing, casting for trout in the Yampa River.
Another group opts for horseback riding at Saddleback Ranch, where scenic trails, open meadows, and a little western spirit make for a classic Steamboat experience.
Everyone converges back at the neighborhood and walks down the street together for lunch at Brick. Snag a long table out on their sun-drenched deck and fuel up on wood-fired pizzas, fresh salads, and local drafts while swapping stories from the morning's excursions.
Just a short walk down the street from Dala Horse Lodge and Spotted Saddle Lodge is the Steamboat Tennis & Pickleball Complex - one of the premier facilities in Colorado. The competitive faction of the family claims a few courts for a high-stakes, multi-generational pickleball tournament to crown the family champions.
Another energetic group hops on rental bikes that had been delivered to the homes and cruises the scenic Yampa River Core Trail into downtown Steamboat. There’s an inevitable stop for ice cream at the iconic Lyon's Corner Drug Soda Fountain before pedaling home.
For a late afternoon cooldown, everyone reconvenes at the community outdoor pool, where kids cannonball endlessly while adults relax.
In addition to the pool, other amenities include hot tubs, fitness center, and a game room.
...while the adults gather on the decks with cocktails in hand, and the grill masters and chefs in the family take charge of BBQ duty, turning dinner prep into its own social event.
You can’t have a Steamboat summer reunion without experiencing the town's living western heritage. The entire family heads over to the Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo. From bull riding and barrel racing to the hilarious kids' Ram and Calf Scrambles, it’s an authentic tradition that delights everyone from toddlers to grandparents.
Spotted Saddle Lodge can sleep ten kids between two bunk rooms. One features two twin-over-double bunks. The second bunk room has three sets of twin-over-twin beds. While over at Dala Horse Lodge, eight kids can pile into the bunkroom with two full over queen bunks and two twin trundle beds.
Between the two homes, you can sleep a total of 32 people.
