Steamboat Summer Horseback Riding

Thing To Do Steamboat Summer Horseback Riding

With cowboys on every corner, no one can argue that Steamboat was meant to be experienced on horseback. It’s a tradition that dates back to our founding and the Western heritage is alive and well in Steamboat. Just ask the many family-owned ranches that offer horseback riding, they’ve been here for multiple generations. Our guests not only love the serenity and the slow pace, but they also love the elevated view, at least 15 hands high! While hiking and biking might have you staring down at the ground more often than not, horseback riding enables you to sit back in your saddle and fully enjoy the scenery from up above the trail!

There are rides to suit every schedule from 1 hour to all day. You can even put your own family to work and join an actual cattle drive or follow an afternoon ride with a wagon ride dinner and BBQ.

You can experience horseback riding right in town at the stables near the rodeo grounds or treat yourself to the complete cowboy experience by heading up North to privately owned ranches and homesteads with aspen groves, mountain meadows and local wildlife. “Local wildlife” might include a moose sighting, mule deer, elk or coyote, and definitely includes your cowboy guides (they’re all at least a little bit wild)! And if you’d rather let someone else do the riding, then be sure to catch at least one evening at the Steamboat Pro Rodeo. Wild is their middle name!

Our favorite horseback riding outfitter for views, stories and service - is Del’s Triangle 3 Ranch. Options include 1 hour, 2 hour, ½ day and full day adventures. You'll slip back in time to the days of the Old West while exploring the pristine countryside that surrounds Steamboat. All ages are welcomed from 6 and up.
