Our Past Guests' Testimonials - Our Cookbook
We look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful chalets. We moved to the Rocky Mountains in 1998 after several succ essful years in the Caribbean aboard the charter yacht "Endless Summer II". We grew very attached to life on the water in the British Virgin Islands but made the move to land to establish a family base for the future and welcomed our daughter Madeleine to the world in July 2002.
We have enjoyed welcoming past sailing guests and many new friends to our Moving Mountains Chalets. In 1999 we introduced a second chalet "Mountain High Chalet", which continues to be popular with smaller groups. in 2002 we introduced the fabulous ski-in ski-out "Edelweiss Chalet" and for Winter 03/04 the Bear Berry Chalet. It seems like the Chalet idea is catching on....
Our "full-service concept" has obviously hit the right note with our guests - looking at the number of repeat bookings we get each year. We have also enjoyed recognition in the media - most recently for a second time in Ski Magazine, Sunset Magazine and the Denver Post. Please continue to spread the word!
Our aim, is to provide you with a memorable and relaxing vacation. We will "move a mountain" if that's what it takes!
The Moving Mountains Team:
Heather Craigen
Heather's cooking was legendary aboard ESII and she has continued to refine her skills at Cordon Bleu, the Culinary Institute of America and most recently at the International School of Baking in Oregon. In July 2001 she was featured on the cover of the Food Section of the Denver Post. She has authored her own cookbook - "Simple Pleasures" which highlights some of her most successful creations, plus many old favorites, and hosts Cooking Seminars at Moving Mountains on selected weeks (call for info!). She has skied since her high school years and has started snowboarding regularly this year as well.
Robin Craigen
Robin's organizational skills always kept the ship running smoothly in the islands. As a professional yachtsman for several years, he covered many ocean miles. He has competed in many international regattas and offshore races including the Sydney-Hobart, Newport - Bermuda, New York - Southampton Trans-Atlantic, and Fastnet Races. Several years in the European Ski Travel industry in the 80's, including 2 years in the French Alps, provided the experience applied in developing this fine vacation concept for Steamboat Springs. He is a keen skier and snowboarder and will be happy to show you round the Steamboat ski area and all its highlights in the winter, or tour the area by mountain bike in the summer.
Ross Bywater
After several years of leading expeditions in both Africa and South America, Ross headed for adventure on the ocean. Having sailed down the coast of Australia and across the Tasman Sea to New Zealand he found himself in the Caribbean as Captain of a 50' yacht. After two busy years in the British Virgin Islands he yearned to go skiing and sample the crisp mountain air of the Rockies. And so now he's in Colorado with his wife , Penny (they married in Steamboat in Fall 2003), as part of the Moving Mountains team for his next great adventure in life.
Ross is an excellent skier and a promising snow boarder. He has enough adventure stories to keep you amused for hours.
Penny Lovell
Penny has worked in all areas of hospitality, from her own family owned restaurants to one of Australia's top gourmet food suppliers. She has travelled throughout Europe, Africa and the Caribbean gaining culinary knowledge wherever she went. A keen sailor, Penny spent the last two years creating wonderful dishes as charter yacht chef in the BVI.
Penny brings a big friendly smile and true Australian charm to Colorado.
Tony Hancock
Another world traveller, Tony has spent time in Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA over the past 15 years.
After working two ski seasons in New Zealand and trekking extensively in Nepal, he found that he was most at home in the fresh mountain air. He was chef and manager running a ski chalet for the previous 4 winter seasons so he brings hands-on experience to the Moving Mountains Team. He has also worked in many other areas of the catering industry.
Tony is a keen skier, snowboarder. His smiling face and great sense of humour will make you feel at home in Steamboat.
