In the Winter... The Yampa Valley becomes a Winter Wonderland as the snow begins to fall in Steamboat.  The valley's golf courses now offer over 12 miles of groomed cross-country Skiing trails.  The lakes and ice rinks offer ice skaters a place to twirl and spectators a chance to watch a fast paced game of ice hockey.  The mountainous back country calls to the adventure instinct to explore by dogsled, snowshoe, cross-country skis, horse-drawn sleigh, or snowmobiles.  "Powder hounds" will enjoy a day with Steamboat Powder Cats skiing virgin powder all day at Buffalo Pass. Enjoy the sweet silence found in the Aspen forests while horseback riding. The rivers still offer the chance to try fly-fishing; or head to the lakes to experience ice fishing. 

Of course, Steamboat Ski Area offers World-Class skiing activities from ski school to fresh powder skiing in the trees.  The ski area offers "snow-tubing" under the lights at night on the hills around the ski base area.  For those visitors that choose not to rent skis, you can enjoy the mountain by riding up (and back down!) in the gondola to visit a cozy lodge at mid-mountain.  Night skiing is available at Howelson Hill or enjoy the thrill of watching a skier leap from one of the US Ski Team practice jumps.
